Day 8: Aix-en-Provence - Arles

7 September, 2018

If you’ve ever asked yourself what is worse from the day in which a lot of hills and after that and bad weather happen, well… This kind of trip is super because it reminds you over and over again that being capable to make the right decision at the certain moment is much more important than to plan everything to the detail, and after that to follow that plan blindly. Because plans are there not to be fulfilled, to turn attention from other options, destroy your life or to blow into your face for whole 85km.

On the eighth day of our trip from Aix-en-Provence to Arlo we have travelled through beautiful wavy landscapes of Provance, surrounded by vineyards with black grapes, olive fields, rivers, seas, wineries, orchid nursery gardens. And the road smelled just like that. It smelled on the olives and the sea, but the most of all it smelled on wine, which was like the vineries are spilling it all over the road.

Let’s get back to the plans. Our plan gave us 85km into our face, we were traveling barely 10km/h, it looked like there is no end, because when there is no rain and when there is no hills, it doesn’t mean that there won’t be the wind which is heavy like previous two combined. And really, the road we would normally make through for 3 hours, we spent 6. The last 10km looked like we are standing still.

And besides that, we arrived at Arl around 7 PM. The town in which Van Gogh have lived from 1888 until 1889, and today it is the town of modern photography and the young people. Preparations for the festival which will happen there this weekend are in progress and stands with various food are all around. We can hear fado, trumpets and one more in the row of new French accents.

Arl is one more of those towns which are marked by everyone in their notes under “Check for the master studies”, “Check the price for meter square”. At the moment we are checking the distance to the Sete, because, instructed with yesterday’s experience, we PLANED something again.
